UC Davis Department of Theatre and Dance

Creative Connections Arts Academy

Above are students learning arts integrated curriculum.  Arts integrated curriculum couples a core subject area such as English,  science, history or math with an arts subject such as theatre, dance, music, or the visual arts to help  students retain and grow in knowledge in both core and arts subject areas. I coupled Theatre Arts  and English

Sierra College
In my acting courses, students train in voice, movement, and scene or monologue analysis.  In the photos above, you can see some of my acting students in action.
In  my "Movement for the  Actor" courses, students learn Suzuki, Laban, and Viewpoints actor movement systems. Above are students training in the Suzuki Method.
"I for one am grateful to be a modern woman. Women today are amazing. We often carry the weight of the world on our shoulders without anyone knowing it. Let’s stick together, be kind to one another." ~ Kate in NOW AND THEN

I led my Sierra College Theatre Arts students in the Student-Directed One-Act Plays. We produced two one-act plays - BATTLEART III: THE ART OF BATTLE and NOW AND THEN.

BATTLEART III was a comedic play with a video game vibe. NOW AND THEN was a female-centered play that uplifts the lives of women today and the past.

My ensemble of actors directed and acted in the plays. I stage managed BATTLEART III and sound designed, actor and director-coached both plays.

Kudos to my wonderful ensemble of students!

"What a great class, and what a fabulous instructor! Loved it, Janey! "
- Julie, Sierra College Student (Introduction to Theatre)
"Thank you so much for a wonderful experience this summer. I was nervous, out of my comfort zone, but enjoyed every single minute! I would not have been as brave as I was if it wasn’t for your encouragement. Thanks for everything!!! "
- Rebecca, Sierra College Student (Acting)
"I have mixed emotions about Drama ending . I feel that I’m happy that I will pass the class and I did well on my final but I’m sad that the class is ending because I enjoyed it. I feel that this class was everything I wanted it to be. It got me out of my comfort zone, it made me want to participate, and it actually brought me joy. I am so grateful for you Janey and I hope I get another experience to be in your class. You made going to UC Davis all the much easier. You gave me the opportunity to express myself and for that I’m very grateful."
- Kayla, UC Davis Student (Acting)
"I loved how our product to the class was the best we could show and nothing less. Regarding the other acting students’ performances, not only did I enjoy them, but I loved every single one of them. In the same way, we created a version of the characters, my classmates did the same thing. None of the interpretations of the characters were wrong but instead held a different twist and way of seeing the characters. I loved that everyone in the class was so excited about each others’ actions and how everyone seemed to enjoy themselves in style. I will miss that everyone was there to learn and have fun acting without thinking about getting judged or made fun of. It was a very special time/place in my day-to-day schedule, and I will remember it as one of the best courses I will ever take in my college experience here at Davis. Thank you for everything!"
- Gerardo, UC Davis Student (Acting)

Real education should consist of drawing the goodness and the best out of our own students. What better books can there be than the book of humanity?
